If you are a fan of vintage clothing and you are based in London, here’s a heads up: Europe’s largest vintage kilo fair is taking place in Bethnal Green today and tomorrow.
If you are unfamililar with kilo sales, they work like this: you turn up, fill a bag with clothes and pay by the kilo. Simple! A kilo of clothes generally translates into four or five items, so there can be bargain finds for the eagle-eyed.
Here are the details:
Dates: Friday 2 March and Saturday 3 March, 2012.
Times: 4 pm to 7 pm on the Friday, and 11 am to 4 pm on the Saturday.
Venue: York Hall, 5-15 Old Ford Rd, E2 9PJ.
Nearest tube: Bethnal Green.
Price per kg: £15. There is also a £1 entry charge (and you can come and go as often as you please over the two days).
This vintage kilo sale features 10 tonnes of 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s fashion ranging from dresses to bomber jackets, laid out on 150 rails. The stock will be replenished throughout the two days, so don’t worry about missing out if you can’t make it there for 4 pm on the dot.
There will also be a separate room of wholesale vintage jewellery, with prices from 50p.
The vintage kilo sale has been organised by Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair, which runs vintage fashion events around the country. So if you aren’t anywhere near London and don’t want to be left out, check out their website. This month alone, there are vintage fashion sales, furniture sales and kilo sales in Sheffield, Nottingham, Cumbria, Edinburgh, Bath, Glasgow, Leeds and Leicester.
If you drop in and scoop up some vintage bargains, I want to hear about them!

I’d never heard of kilo sales before, except at wholesale level, so I shall definitely be checking the website for something local. Sounds like lots of fun unless it gets like the January Sales and you end up fighting (not that I do!).
