Take a bottle of water, some bleach and make a hole in the roof…
I’m not sure how much use this one is in the Western world, but isn’t it the best kind of thrifty idea? I love it.

I remember my wife used to make solar ice tea. Brew the tea outside and put it over ice. Simplicity is sometimes overlooked.

That is absolutely brilliant, and I can’t believe it works so well! I am going to go and fashion some into my rooftops immediately, and light up my life! I love that it is so basic and thrifty, and zero-impact on electricity.
