Yes, indeedy – who says I don’t weed out the best comps for you? In this weekend’s News of the World, amongst salacious tales about WAGs, S&M dungeons and pop stars (not in the same story though), there’s a competition to win a £999 wedding at your local Holiday Inn hotel:
For £999, couples get a civil ceremony-average cost £520- evening DJ and disco (£850), a wedding planner (£150 to £300), function rooms and catering for up to 100 (£5,700). The newlyweds also get a room for the wedding night, red carpet on arrival and an MC for the day (£500). The Holiday Inn wedding buffet includes sausage rolls, sandwiches, pizza, drumsticks, baguette melts, teriyaki, Thai fish skewers and tandoori chicken.
Apparently Holiday Inn’s wedding bookings have shot up by 200 per cent. I’m not surprised: this sort of wedding isn’t going to be for everyone, but it is a bargain.
The newspaper features a couple who did it and loved it:
Vicky and Jon Mather said I do to the credit crunch deal when they got hitched at their local branch of the hotel chain.
“It was my perfect day,” said bride Vicky. “I don’t know how we could have afforded to get married had this offer not come up. Everything went so brilliantly.”
