Miss Thrifty6 November 22, 2012
Well, I’m about halfway through my Christmas shopping now – and my thrifty plan to spend no more than £180 on gifts for 16 people is on track (punches air).
Unfortunately, because so many members of my family read this blog now, I can’t set out what I have bought and how without ruining all the surprises. But let’s just say that, buried in the middle of this list of the latest and greatest Christmas discounts and offers, are a few deals of which I have taken full and shameless advantage…
SMELLIES
The Body Shop – the website can be a pain to use, but The Body Shop is really pushing its online delivery arm, with plenty of good offers at the moment.
- If you are a new customer, you’ll get a 25% discount code emailed to your inbox when you sign up.
- Enter the code SAVOO2040 at the checkout to get £10 off a spend of £20+.
- Enter the code SECRET for 35% off a spend of £5+.
- Fancy ‘hand caddies’ (those hand soap and hand lotion duos, in little stands) are half price, reduced from £18 to £9, if you enter the code CADDY at the checkout.
TOYS
Argos – 2 toys for £15 when you follow this link. The stock levels suck though. I went to make a couple of purchases last week and abandoned my basket because so few of the items in it were in stock or in-store. It may have improved since then though.
IWOOT – 30% off selected toys when you follow this link.
Mothercare – You can save up to half price on infant toys by following this link. If you go for broke and spend £75 or more on toys, you can get a 20% discount by entering the code E4HD at the checkout. I like the Mothercare site because you can group sale items by price bracket, which saves time and effort when you are trying to stick to a strict Christmas budget.
SWEET TREATS
Thorntons – a box of 50 chocolates is currently reduced from £19.99 to £9.99.
Marks & Spencer – large boxes of chocolates reduced from £10 to £5 (in-store).
FASHION
Atterley Road is giving customers 20% off until 4 December – just enter the code FRIENDS20 in ‘My Bag’ to redeem.
Debenhams has discounted all women’s dresses, girls’ dresses and men’s suits by 25%.
I don’t want to bombard you with deals, but there are some great ones out there at the moment so I thought I’d squash them all together. I’ll compile another round-up next week. See: you don’t have to be super-organised and buy all your Christmas presents in March in order to get the best deals. There is hope for us all. 😉

If you have friends or relatives in Australia who you have to send Christmas gifts to – go to Marks and Spencers website right now and find some of their truly great offers on gifts … choose whatever you like and have it send with a gift card all the way to Australia FOR FREE! M&S are (at the moment) offering FREE DELIVERY to Aus on all things on their website . However – there are some items which cannot be sent – usually foody type things – but I think that’s more down to Customs restrictions. There are some really fabulous half price bargains to be had on some gifts there right now. I bought over forty pounds worth of gifts – which included heavy candles – for just over £20 – these were things I would never have bought normally because they were all heavy items and the cost of postage would have been extortionate – but with the free postage offer it made complete sense to buy from them!

Miss Thrifty – Maybe you could make it a family tradition as to who gives the thriftiest and most imaginative gift? I think that doing something like this could turn it into a great fun family event. You might even be amazed an what some people can create?

I’ve found loads of good deals in store at the Body Shop too lately, far too tempting to treat myself! I’m trying to be careful this year so I’m currently using this as my bible http://www.chilterndebtmanagement.co.uk/chiltern-press/12-days-christmas-debt-advice/ – Cute!

Great post. We went to the body shop on Friday and by purchasing a Love Your Body card for £5 we got 30% off and a free £20 gift (to be regifted!). This was in addition to buying two gift packs that were already offering nearly 50% off the products. I must work out the exact saving, but we definitely came out on top!
