Miss Thrifty10 February 11, 2009
Now then. Do you remember when I wrote about Chiconomise at the end of last year? It’s the new online venture from Apprentice winner Michelle Dewberry. I promised to update you after I’d checked it out.
As I noted back then:
Right now the website is just a sign-up page and an About page, and references to “scouring the city” for tips makes me think that it’s going to be predictably London-centric. But I think I’m going to put my e-mail addy down anyway, and give it a whirl.
For the uninitiated: you sign up via the Chiconomise homepage, and receive a free email newsletter every Thursday with a roll of offers and discounts.
Well, I’ve given Chiconomise a whirl and those newsletters have been landing in my inbox, regular as clockwork. And do you know what? I rather like them!
They tend to focus upon our glorious metropolis, as cynically predicted by yours truly, but there are still some good bargains to be had by those of us who have ventured north of the Watford Gap. The latest newsletter featured a voucher to get 40 per cent off champers at Threshers, plus 10 per cent off Benefit goodies ordered online, when you enter the code BENELOVE at the checkout.
Michelle’s plans for Chiconomise are also becoming clear. Apparently it’s going to be a “one stop shop for all things desirable at fantastic prices”. Sounds interesting; a frugal version of Net-A-Porter, maybe?*
Anyway, Chiconomise gets a (fancy nail-lacquered, champagne-stained) thumbs up from Miss Thrifty.
* Funnily enough Natalie Massenet, the woman behind Net-A-Porter, has just launched her own cut-price fashion site. It’s already got my back up, though. I’ll be posting about it tomorrow.

Interesting article. Most of the discount offer sites I see are garbage but I’ll have a look at this one. By the way your link to chiconomise is wrong (missing the http).

Interesting one Miss T – I’ll check out the website.
There seems to be a lot of books/resources springing up for women to take a look at their finances. I am half way through a book called Sheconomics which seems of a similar ilk.
The feminist in me says “yippee, common sense chat about finances from women” the cynic says “Hmmm, ploy to capitalise on fears about finance during the CC”…

I subscribed to chiconomise when you mentioned it back in November and I love it too! I live up north and while lots of the stuff is London focused, ive used lots of the web discounts they have provided. Yay!

Sure its a great idea by Michelle Dewberry but isn’t she just gonna be doing the sort of stuff we do on our blogs already? Check out mine for a great Loreal professinal range free shampoo or conditioner at appointed salons.

Thanks for the feedback! Glad you like it!
The new website will have a national focus so there should be something for everyone!
