We all know that if you are planning to holiday abroad, a last minute deal can save oodles of cash. But what about if you are planning to holiday in the UK?
A website called Late Lettings is worth checking out if you can hold your nerve, and delay booking your accommodation. It is a site where holiday cottage owners from around the country can list their “empty weeks”, with some steep discounts on offer.
For example, here is The Lodge in Okehampton, Devon. It sleeps 16, is available for six nights from 6 August 2012 – and the price is reduced by 40 per cent, from £2,900 to £1,740.
This house, Quarries Reach in Portland, Dorset, is a new-build with rural and sea views. It sleeps up to nine and is available for four nights from 18 September 2012. The price has been reduced by 25 per cent, from £400 to £300.
Here in North Yorkshire, White Rose Cottage in Robin Hood’s Bay (a very pretty former fishing village) is available for two nights on the weekend of 11 August 2012, and sleeps two. The price has been reduced by 20 per cent, from £190 to £152.
You can also search the Late Lettings site by dates, number of beds required and preferred locations.
It’s a fairly new site, but it’s an interesting idea, isn’t it? If you are open to suggestions about where to go, that is. Already, holiday cottage owners from Cornwall to Northumberland have signed up. At the time of writing, the properties available range from yurts to farmhouses.

In these recessionary times there is a big demand for late booking sites such as this. Once you are willing to be flexible on your choice these kind of last minute bookings can be a great way to save. This is a new sitefor me to check out so thanks for the information.
