Trade your old mobile for pop concert tickets

Miss Thrifty6 July 28, 2009

I’m not a fan of Ticketmaster, generally – I don’t like their booking fees and I take my orders from 1990s rock totty – but the concert giant’s latest scheme gets the thumbs up from me.

In short, you can trade in your old mobile phones and/or iPods for a Ticketmaster giftcard. Find out the value of your item by visiting this site; if you want to proceed they’ll send you a stamped, addressed recycling envelope. For every phone recycled, Ticketmaster will also donate £1 to charity.

Apparently the phones can be traded in for up to £150. To give you a guide: my current phone, a Nokia 6500s that came free with my latest mobile contract, is worth £40.

Nice, my Omnia would get £90 but I could get £150 for CEX in Leeds or more on ebay. Damn Ticketmaster, like all those phone ads you see on TV they are never the best deal.

There’s a load of sites that you can use to find the best price for your old mobile, I have a list here: http://money-watch.co.uk/4963/best-deal-old-mobile

And of course it’s also worth taking a look at eBay to see what prices your type of phone is currently fetching.

Interesting article, I did not know this. I had see places where you could sell your phones and knew you could try your luck on EBAY, but this is a new twist.

I sometimes buy from Ticketmaster so I will have to check into this and dig out my old phones.

Thanks!

Brits threw away £5.5 billion of old mobile phones last year, why not make some money instead?

Mobile Phone Xchange (MPX) is one of the UK’s leading mobile phone recycling companies, I made over £110 from an old Nokia handset I had lying around.
